Voters in the Fox C-6 School District delivered a clear message in the April election, returning incumbent Travis Lintner to the board with his strongest showing to date.
For Lintner, the result was not something he expected.
“I was completely floored by the turnout,” he said. “It was absolutely humbling. I am extremely thankful to the community for that trust and that support.”
Lintner noted that school board races drew significant engagement compared to other items on the ballot, underscoring the size of the district and the number of families it serves.
A Consistent Approach to Leadership
As an incumbent, Lintner believes his reelection reflects a steady approach to leadership rooted in accessibility and a willingness to engage directly with the community.
“I have maintained consistency with just being a strong voice for our kids,” he said.
That approach includes prioritizing face to face conversations, even with those who disagree.
“I do not tend to go into the forum of social media. I am a strong advocate for face to face conversations,” Lintner said, adding that some of his most productive discussions have come from sitting down with critics and finding common ground.
He emphasized that community unity remains a central focus, particularly in a time when many public conversations have become increasingly divisive.
What Changes and What Stays the Same
With newly elected board member Joe Looney joining the board, Lintner does not anticipate a major shift in direction.
“I do not think the dynamic is going to change a whole lot,” he said, pointing to the district’s Continuous School Improvement Plan as a guiding framework that remains consistent despite changes in board membership.
Lintner described Looney as a longtime community member with strong ties to the district and expressed confidence in his addition to the board. He mentioned his experience with the school as a parent, coach, and community leader; stating he was looking forward to working with him.
“I think he will do great. His focus is on the students, and that is where we all need to be focused.”
Why Proposition M Passed
While many tax and bond measures struggled across the region, Fox voters approved Proposition M.
Lintner believes the reason is straightforward.
“It was not a tax increase,” he said.
He noted that recent election cycles have shown broader resistance to tax increases, not just within the school district but across other local initiatives. By contrast, Proposition M offered facility improvements without increasing taxes, making it more appealing to voters.
He also credited the district’s outreach efforts, including community meetings and feedback tools, for helping build support and understanding.
A Shifting Relationship with the Community
Lintner believes the relationship between the district and the community is improving, though he acknowledged it can be difficult to measure.
“It just feels like we are doing well,” he said.
He pointed to increased transparency, more community engagement efforts, and stronger communication as contributing factors. At the same time, he noted that past issues still shape public perception.
“There are things from years ago that people have not let go of,” he said, emphasizing that current leadership and systems are different today.
Lintner encouraged residents to ask questions directly rather than relying on social media discussions, which can often amplify misinformation before facts are fully understood.
Balancing Growth, Finances, and Expectations
Managing a district the size of Fox C-6 comes with unique challenges, particularly when it comes to finances.
State funding levels can shift year to year, making long term planning difficult.
“It is almost an impossible ask to say, ‘Make sure we are financially set for five years,’” Lintner said.
He emphasized that the district must balance maintaining financial stability with investing in students, staff, and facilities, particularly as one of the largest employers in the county with dozens of buildings to maintain.
Priorities for the Next Term
Looking ahead, Lintner outlined several key priorities for his next term:
Student safety
Expanding opportunities for students
Increasing engagement with state policymakers
Encouraging open dialogue within the community
He also highlighted a shift in how the district views student success.
“There are multiple paths for success,” he said, noting a growing emphasis on trade programs alongside traditional college pathways.
One example under consideration is the addition of practical courses such as home maintenance and repair, aimed at equipping students with real world skills.
A Behind the Scenes Achievement
Among the accomplishments Lintner is most proud of is a program many residents may not be aware of.
The district recently established an offsite facility that allows students facing long term suspensions to continue receiving in person education rather than being limited to virtual learning. Lintner said that it is part of the ongoing determination to make sure that every student has the best educational options, regardless of their situation.
“Every student, Every day, whatever it takes” Lintner said.
The program provides an alternative path that keeps students engaged and prevents them from falling behind academically, an effort Lintner described as aligning with the district’s commitment to serve every student.
A Call for Community Engagement
As he begins his next term, Lintner hopes to see increased community involvement, not just during moments of controversy, but consistently.
“I would love to see more people show up when there is not a hot button issue,” he said.
He emphasized that while feedback and opinions are important, meaningful progress often starts with direct conversations. He also stated that Dr. Paul Fregeau, the district’s superintendent, has gone above and beyond to make himself available to the community for any concern, comment, or question. That kind of leadership is what continues to set the benchmark for the school board as well as drive renewed trust within the community.
Looking Ahead
For Lintner, the path forward is less about dramatic change and more about steady progress.
Through continued communication, a focus on students, and a willingness to engage with the community, he believes the district is moving in a positive direction.
And after a strong show of support from voters, he says he is ready to continue that work.
