Local leadership. Local decisions. Local impact.

CASA of Jefferson County gives children in foster care something every kid deserves: a consistent adult in their corner.
Trained community volunteers are appointed by a judge to advocate for a child’s best interests—working with caseworkers, schools, and families, then sharing what they learn so the court can make the most informed decision.

County Dispatch
De Soto leaders are weighing a one year agreement that would have the De Soto Rural Fire Protection District provide management for the city fire department. Officials say the departments would remain separate with no merging of personnel, equipment, or tax rates. The city would pay $90,000 annually for operational management, training, incident response oversight, and leadership support. Supporters argue the goal is better coordination, stronger command continuity, and responsible use of taxpayer resources as costs and staffing challenges grow for smaller departments.
The Missouri House has once again unanimously approved a bill clarifying that women can finalize a divorce while pregnant, a change supporters say could be life saving for domestic violence survivors.
Rep. Cecelie Williams shared her own powerful story on the House floor, arguing the current system leaves some women legally trapped. Why has the issue sparked debate for two years in a row, and what happens next? Read the full story to see what is at stake.
Over the past few weeks, rumors have been flying about possible student walkouts at local high schools tied to protests over ICE—and questions about whether faculty encouraged or supported them.
Windsor was one of the districts where parents raised concerns, worried the school was politicizing students during the school day.
In this segment of KJFF Newsmakers (2/11/26), we go straight to the source. Windsor C-1 Superintendent Dr. Jason King joins us to set the record straight and explain what really happened—no rumors, no spin, just answers.
Opinion
Jefferson County is at a crossroads. In this in-depth analysis, Chris Grahn-Howard lays out the economic realities facing our community—from stagnant growth and an aging population to the fact that 76% of residents work outside the county.
What does that mean for schools, taxes, and long-term prosperity? He makes the case for strategic, directed development—not reckless growth—including major projects like a port expansion and modern data centers.
The question isn’t whether change is coming. It’s whether Jefferson County will shape its own future—or let someone else do it for us.
